HP and SanDisk® Team up on Storage Class Memory
SanDisk will collaborate with Hewlett-Packard on storage class memory (SCM), a new category of non-volatile memory designed to enable applications like real-time data analytics and high-performance computing. The two companies also will partner in enhancing data center solutions with Solid State Drives (SSDs).
The technology—which will be based on the Memristor technology developed by HP and the ReRam technology we have been pioneering–is expected to be up to 1,000 times faster than flash storage and offer up to 1,000 times more endurance than flash storage.
Expanding the Edge of the Enterprise
The edge of the enterprise has been expanding for years, which means the perimeter of security that IT managers have to manage continues to get larger and larger. Qualcomm this week showed off Smart Protect, a technology for mobile Snapdragon processor that essentially sniffs out rogue code in apps on your phone. It’s part of a growing trend of better mobile security, like encrypted drives.
Raising the IQ of Industrial Internet of Things
SanDisk this week also unveiled a suite of products for the industrial internet of things. What does this have to do with the data center you ask? IoT devices, particularly those in the commercial and industrial space, will be persistently connected to data centers to optimize manufacturing or lower energy consumption. They are really a whole new class of clients linked to servers, storage systems and your most important applications. Imagine what the impact would be if you doubled your workforce tomorrow: that is what will happen with IoT. It’s time to meet your new co-workers.
October Spells Events
October is the month of major industry events. If you’re following the cloud, AWS re:Invent took place this week, which to continue our discussion of where IoT is heading, Amazon separately announced a new cloud service for IoT devices.
Up ahead next week is VMworld in Barcelona, and whether you’re looking to modernize legacy infrastructure, are contending with the exponential growth of data storage or struggling to meet increasing SLAs with a flat budget – this will be the place to be.
Later this month, from October 26th-30th, database pros from all over the world descend on downtown Seattle for the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS) International Summit, or in the words of PASS president: “We do our best to make it the best SQL geek show on earth.” We’re going to do our best to show you how you can change your business with SQL Server and SanDisk flash – here’s how.
During that week, tens of thousands of IT folks will flock San Francisco to see some of the over 2,500 sessions at Oracle Open World (or catch Elton John and Beck performing on the same stage). Businesses of all sizes are looking to make the most out of their databases by doing more transactions, making faster decisions, and saving money – and we’re helping them take their Oracle environment to the next level.
And there’s even more.
