What a year 2014 has already been for SanDisk®’s ULLtraDIMM! Last August, the announcement of ULLtraDIMM introduced a new concept to market – a Solid State Drive (SSD) that connects flash to the memory bus via DIMM form factor, which dramatically improves business application response times.

As with any new technology, it’s thrilling to see the market recognize the advantages and benefits of its architectural approach – from reduced latency, to improved application performance, and limitless performance and capacity scalability. The SanDisk ULLtraDIMM is hands down a ultra-low latency, cost effective, revolutionary data center solution. Following the Storage Virtualization and Cloud (SVC) and Flash Memory Summit (FMS) award wins in 2013, SanDisk is now honored to open the new year with TWO additional prestigious product awards, as well as a listing as a finalist for a third award to be announced in March!

BIG Innovation award 2014On Monday, ULLtraDIMM was one of 17 worldwide innovations that took home the prestigious BIG Innovation Award. Considering all of the products made in 2013, this award is extremely special to us. The award organizers further complimented the ULLtraDIMM, saying:

SanDisk’s ULLtraDIMM is an amazing innovation in the world of enterprise storage,” said Russ Fordyce, managing director of the Business Intelligence Group. “For years, there has always been a tradeoff between capacity, speed and performance when using SSDs compared to other storage options. Even with the emergence of big data, SanDisk seems to have cracked the nut with its ULLtraDIMM drives. Congratulations to the entire team on this innovation.

In addition, last week, ULLtraDIMM took home the Storage Visions Visionary Product Award in the “Enabling Professional Storage Technology” category with partner Diablo Technologies. The ULLtraDIMM won out among tough competition from many other innovative solutions, speaking volumes of the potential everyone sees in the solution, and the impact they expect the product to have in 2014 and beyond.Storage Visions Visionary Award

Last but not least, ULLtraDIMM was selected for FStech’s shortlist for the “Most Innovative Product of the Year” award. Into its 14th year, the FStech Awards recognizes excellence and innovation in the field of information technology within the UK and EMEA financial services sector. We have long believed that the ULLtraDIMM will be transformative in the financial services industry globally, among others, because of the ultra-low latency it enables, reducing the lag time between trades and enabling institutions to capture profit at a moments notice.

ULLtraDIMMAt the launch of the ULLtraDIMM SSD, New York-based, real time transactional messaging specialist, 60East, tested its AMPS database using the ULLtraDIMM SSD—which leverages Memory Channel Storage (MCS™) technology—and compared its performance against the fastest pre-ULLtraDIMM flash-based storage devices. The tests demonstrated a significant increase in the number of transactions possible per second, through lower latency, higher bandwidth, and more consistent performance.

To be on the shortlist for a leading financial services awards program in the UK proves to us that this is a need organizations are looking to solve, and that we have a tremendous opportunity to tackle.

Having our newest solid-state drive recognized by three different award programs in such a short period is testament to the hard work and collective efforts of the entire SanDisk team! We’re excited about the territory we’ve already covered in the first weeks of 2014, but we can’t wait to innovate solid-state drives and enterprise storage even further. We will be highlighting various use cases, exciting news and technology developments regarding ULLtraDIMM on this blog moving forward, so be sure to check back often.
